| in situ: was
formed in April 2000 to produce high-quality theatre productions
emphasising the use of the space and environment (usually concentrating
on non-theatre spaces), extended vocality and technology. The three
members of in situ: have worked together for more than 5 years and
have specific strengths in acting, directing and technology.
in situ:'s work has developed into three main threads:
Professional touring productions
Small-scale touring productions, the first of which "Father,
Can't You See I'm Burning" was based in a house. "Paradise"
was designed end-on for small-medium theatres and "Mirabilis",
which was funded by a grant from the Arts Council, toured redundant
churches across East Anglia between May and July 2004.
Workshop productions
Longer-term workshop developments over 2-3 terms involving students
(frequently regular participants) to produce a single run (sometimes
two, depending on availability) of 1-2 weeks in a single venue.
Past productions have included "Decameron" and "The
Macbeth Project", both based in a house, and "Without
History" based in the Cambridge University Museum of Archaeology
and Anthropology. In July 2003 the production was based on H.G.
Wells' "War of the Worlds", in 2004 it was Euripedes'
"The Bacchae" and in 2005, "The Canterbury Tales"
and "The Hedda Gabler Project".
Workshops
From 1 day/week for 6 weeks courses covering beginners and advanced
acting skills, to 1 day/1 weekend workshops on specific techniques
/ practitioners, to residential, environmental workshops involving
performance in outdoor spaces.
